Special: Sunday Sushi

Sunday we had a work gathering, which coincidentally, focused on food, because work makes us fat whether we're there or not. An extra-wonderful, ex-employee, we'll call her "mom", hosted the Sushi party where we made rolls, sashimi and drank sake (a perk of having an out-of-work gathering.)
(The sake tasted like vodka, except you have to sip it and not take it as a shot, which I thought, made it way less enjoyable, but the after-effect still made it worth it.)
Anyway, three lamer-employees didn't show up, leaving more sake and sushi for us, and pictures and left-overs to brag with..

One great tip we learned was to dip your fingers and all the rice presses for the sashimi in vinegar water, or Tezu, so it doesn't stick to your hands. We used tuna, salmon, shrimp and octopus for the sashimi. The octopus was fishy, chewy and as gross as I imagined. (Sorry mom!) Everything else though, wonderful and super easy. However, if you didn't know, Wasabi burns your nose if you eat too much.
We left the party with a kimono wine cover and sushi mats and an option for a second career as a Itamae Sushi Masters. We'll deff. be making sushi and drinking a lot more saki in the future. Homemade sushi is wayy better than those $1 Sushi Land plates!
